FAQs

Common questions we are asked.

We offer bulk billing to Concession Card and Health Care Card holders. Non-card holders will be required to make a gap payment in addition to the Medicare rebate. The Medicare rebate is the amount the Federal Government contributes towards health services. It does not cover the cost of high-quality radiology services. Our carefully selected gap allows us to maintain the highest standards in imaging technology and patient care, while minimising costs to the patient.
You do need a referral from a health practitioner, as your imaging results will need to be interpreted in the context of your clinical condition. A referral from a GP or specialist will, in most cases, allow you to receive the Medicare rebate. Some allied health practitioner referrals are eligible for a Medicare rebate also. For example: physiotherapists, podiatrists, chiropractors and osteopaths can order a limited scope of MBS rebatable X-rays or ultrasounds.

To receive the Medicare rebate you must:

  1. Present a valid Medicare card
  2. Present a valid referral from a GP or Specialist (or for select scans, an allied health professional)
  3. Meet Medicare eligibility for the referred scan

To meet Medicare eligibility, the scan you are having must have an MBS rebatable item number and your clinical circumstances must meet the eligibility criteria. These criteria are strictly determined by Medicare.

Please speak with our friendly reception staff to ask if your scan is eligible for a Medicare rebate.

Patients who do not have a Medicare card, do not want to claim the Medicare rebate, or are international patients do still require a referral as your imaging results will need to be interpreted by a clinician.

Depending on your insurance cover, international patients may be eligible to claim a portion of fees paid as a rebate through their insurance company. Our fees are billed in accordance with the Medicare Benefit Schedule.

We recommend that international patients contact their insurance company as soon as possible to clarify what their policy does or does not cover.

Yes. As long as it is a valid referral / request by an eligible health practitioner (eg: GP, other Specialist, eligible allied health practitioner, etc) you may use any radiology clinic of your choice.  See here for more information: healthdirect and Services Australia and NIB.

Private health insurance does not cover radiology investigations (unless you are an in-patient or overseas visitor with international travel insurance). If you are an international visitor with the necessary insurance, full payment is required at the time of the consultation, you will then be provided with a receipt to claim directly from your provider.
